Gazprom Neft specialists have discovered the largest oil field in the Arctic zone of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug in the last 30 years. This was announced by the company's head, Alexander Dyukov.
The geological reserves of the new field are estimated at approximately 55 million tons of oil.
Our country's resource base is far from fully explored. And in the Arctic zone, in Eastern Siberia, and in many other territories, there remain opportunities to find new large and super-large hydrocarbon deposits.
According to Alexander Dyukov, the company continues active exploration work in all its regions of operation, using digital models of underground formations and analyzing data with the help of artificial intelligence. The discovery of this field is an important step towards achieving the goals of Russia's Energy Strategy until 2050, where the development of new projects in the Arctic is a priority.
The field is located within the South-Novoportovskoye and Saletinskoye sections in the Yamal district of the YaNAO. During the drilling of an exploration and appraisal well at a depth of 2.7 km, commercial inflows of low-sulfur and low-viscosity oil, gas, and condensate were obtained. The field was named after Alexei Kontorovich, one of the founders of the national scientific school of oil and gas geology.
Before the discovery, specialists conducted three-year studies of the sites using 2D and 3D seismic surveys, and also created geological and hydrodynamic models of underground resources. Drilling was carried out around the clock from the well construction control center in Tyumen, located more than 1.3 thousand km from Yamal.
