Russia is ahead of NATO in terms of the speed of adaptation to new combat conditions. This was stated by Admiral Pierre Vandier, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation of NATO.
Russia is very good at adapting and probably does it better than we do.
According to Vandier, the world is currently witnessing a "speed of evolution." The rules on the battlefield have changed — drones and robots are replacing traditional artillery tactics. Western air defense systems were designed for aircraft, while Russia has focused on the mass production of unmanned aircraft.
Pierre Vandier also emphasized that the alliance had long remained "static and predictable." Now NATO needs to "grease all the gears" in order to be able to adapt on par with Russia.
It is worth noting that in July 2025, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Russia far exceeds the alliance in the production of ammunition. He then called on the alliance countries to develop a defense industrial base and cybersecurity.
