Project for 800 Billion Rubles: Construction of Kola NPP-2 to be Completed by 2043

The first power unit of the station will be commissioned in 2035

The construction of all four units of the Kola Nuclear Power Plant-2 (Kola NPP-2) in the Murmansk Region is planned to be completed by 2043-2044. This was announced by the station's director, Vasily Omelchuk.

According to Vasily Omelchuk, the first unit of the station is planned to be commissioned in 2035.

The construction of the Kola Nuclear Power Plant will last about 20 years and will be very large-scale.
Vasily Omelchuk, Director of Kola NPP-2

Kola NPP-2 power units will use almost no boric acid, which will make them more environmentally friendly. The new VVER-S (water-water power reactor with spectral regulation) are 20-25% more efficient in using nuclear fuel compared to the conventional VVER (water-water power reactor). They will operate in a closed cycle, which does not require a new uranium deposit.

These units will be calculated and designed for 60 years, and the possibility of extending them to 80 years will be included in the project immediately.
Vasily Omelchuk, Director of Kola NPP-2

Kola NPP-2 will be the first nuclear power plant in the world with a reactor with spectral regulation. About 800 billion rubles will be allocated for the construction of the reactors. Work on preparing the site and building access roads will begin in the summer of 2026.

It is expected that Kola NPP-2 will provide energy to the Murmansk Region and Karelia for the next 100 years.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that unique reactors with a closed nuclear fuel cycle VVER-S will be installed at Kola NPP-2.
