Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ) has launched mass production of the extra-long version of the "Gazelle NN" model. Previously, such modifications were created only by third-party developers.
The wheelbase of the new version of the car has become larger. It was increased to 4245 mm, and the total frame extension was 870 mm due to the redesigned rear overhang.
The previous longest "Gazelle" had a base of 3745 mm. The car has become almost half a meter longer.
To create extended "Gazelle NN" vehicles, the plant has introduced a separate assembly scheme to manage the increased dimensions of the car. The process begins with the creation of a standard chassis, after which the car is transferred to an additional assembly line section for the installation of extended side members and other components (rear underrun protection, lighting equipment and spare wheel holder). The result is a fully mass-produced car, ready for sale without the participation of third-party companies.
At the request of a large customer, GAZ equipped the chassis with a frameless van 5100 mm long, which can accommodate 23 cubic meters of cargo. The rear suspension of the car was reinforced, and the body was equipped with fastening loops, rails, lighting and a retractable ladder.
The "Gazelle NN" is equipped with a 2.5-liter turbodiesel engine with a capacity of 150 hp, paired with a 6-speed "mechanics".
