Russian Army Tests Electronic Dog Tags for Tracking and Accounting of Military Personnel

Mass implementation of the devices is scheduled for 2026

In 2026, the Russian Ministry of Defense plans to introduce electronic dog tags for searching for missing military personnel. This was announced by the head of the department, Andrei Belousov.

According to Belousov, electronic dog tags will significantly expand the capabilities of searching for missing soldiers. Prior to mass implementation, a military-technical experiment is already being conducted in the "Center" and "Dnieper" groups, which has already shown positive results.

The Minister emphasized that the use of electronic dog tags will create a more efficient system for accounting and tracking military personnel, which will increase the safety of personnel and allow for a faster response in cases of loss of communication or emergency situations.

Similar technologies are already used in the US, UK, and Israeli armies. In the US, digital identifiers are integrated with GPS and internal communication systems, which allows for quickly locating soldiers on the battlefield.
