The Ka-27M shipborne helicopter of the Northern Fleet was named after Honored Military Pilot of Russia, Major General Nikolai Kuklev. The solemn event took place in Severomorsk.
The machine became the first именным helicopter in the history of the Northern Fleet aviation, the fleet's press service emphasized.
Nikolai Kuklev is a participant in nine long-range sea voyages of shipborne aircraft carrier groups. He has flown over 3 thousand hours on various types of helicopters and made about 3.5 thousand landings on a ship. Kuklev is the only shipborne helicopter pilot who became the head of naval aviation of the Russian Navy.
Until the last days of his life, Kuklev worked as Deputy General Designer of helicopters at the Kamov Design Bureau. He died on December 19, 2021.
As a reminder, the Ka-27M is a modernized deck-based anti-submarine helicopter designed to detect and destroy submarines.
