The Terminator tank support fighting vehicle (BMPT) has become a failed project of the Russian defense industry. This point of view was presented in the American publication 19FortyFive.
Observer Brent Eastwood assures that initially the Terminator was positioned as a formidable platform, but the real results on the battlefield turned out to be disappointing.
Eastwood believes that the BMPT allegedly has problems with build quality, and the vehicle remains vulnerable to drones and anti-tank missiles. He added that the position of the Terminator between a tank and an infantry fighting vehicle has not yet been clearly justified.
In three words — seems like a failure.
It should be noted that the BMPT carries a weapons complex that gives the vehicle advantages even in the fight against air targets — two 30-mm cannons and a machine gun. Four Ataka-T missiles and two automatic grenade launchers allow it to \"work\" even on the most fortified objects.
Recently, the manufacturer of Terminators, Uralvagonzavod (part of Rostec), supplied a new batch of BMPTs to the troops. The combat equipment received the latest updates of 2025 — enhanced dynamic protection, new anti-drone grilles, and electronic warfare kits, like on the T-90M Proryv and T-72B3M.
