Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ) has completed the process of re-equipping the model range of its commercial vehicles. Gasoline and bi-fuel modifications of «Gazelle Business», «Sobol Business» and «Gazelle Next» are now serially equipped with a more powerful five-speed gearbox model KP 330.
This reinforced transmission was previously used only on «Gazelle Next» versions with diesel power units and is characterized by an increased service life. The gearbox is designed for an input torque of up to 330 Newton-meters. It replaced the previous KP 250 transmission, whose limit was 250 Nm.
The design of the new gearbox includes a three-element housing and a special spacer with an intermediate support for the secondary and intermediate shafts. Instead of a movable splined connection with a cardan transmission, a more reliable flange connection is now used. Other improvements include modernized synchronizers on the first and second gears, as well as a reinforced fifth gear.
The introduction of the updated transmission took place in stages. Since March 2025, it has become standard for all-metal vans «Gazelle Next». Since September, the new gearbox has been introduced in the «Gazelle Business» and «Sobol Business» models with 4×2 drive, and since November — in the onboard versions of «Gazelle Next». In December, the transition to a new gearbox for all-wheel drive versions of «Gazelle Business» and «Sobol Business» was completed.
