At peak loads: two prototypes of the TE26 freight and passenger diesel locomotive undergo rheostat tests

TE26 diesel generator sets were subjected to stress tests in Kolomna

Two prototypes of the universal freight and passenger diesel locomotive TE26, developed by the Bryansk Machine-Building Plant (part of Transmashholding), are in the final stage of acceptance and certification tests at the Kolomna test site.

The engineers' special attention is focused on rheostat tests — a key diagnostic procedure that allows assessing the reliability and stability of the power plant under extreme loads. During these tests, the correct functioning of the electric power circuit, the stable operation of the diesel generator set, as well as the operability of all critical components and systems of the locomotive in conditions as close as possible to real operation are checked.

Rheostat tests simulate peak loads that occur during acceleration of the train and movement along a complex track profile, which allows identifying possible shortcomings at an early stage and ensuring that the locomotive meets the most stringent safety and efficiency requirements.
