Второй самолёт МС-21 приступит к испытаниям в Жуковском через месяц

The second prototype aircraft's flight will allow for increased intensity of certification tests

Anatoly Gaidansky, Director of the Engineering Center of PJSC "Yakovlev", spoke about the progress in import substitution on the 13th MC-21 aircraft and the importance of its first test flight on October 28.

According to Gaidansky, the second prototype aircraft's flight will allow for increased intensity of certification tests, which are already underway in Zhukovsky on board No. 12.

Aircraft 0013 was originally intended to be the first serial MC-21-300 with imported Pratt & Whitney engines and foreign systems. It was the first to implement a wing made of Russian composite material, and several flights allowed us to certify the design in 2022.

After that, the aircraft returned to the factory, where specialists completely dismantled foreign units and engines. "Our designers, technologists, and pilots practically lived with this machine, solving technical problems", Gaidansky emphasized.

Currently, two aircraft are participating in the certification: No. 12 with partially replaced systems and No. 13, which is as close as possible to the future serial version. On board No. 13, the flight control actuators, wing and stabilizer mechanization, and wheel braking system have been completely import-substituted.

The MC-21 is a medium-range passenger aircraft with a capacity of 163–211 people. Serial assembly is carried out at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant. The first flight of the MC-21 took place on May 28, 2017, and in December 2020, the aircraft first took off with the PD-14 engine.
