The Il-62 is an aircraft that has become a rarity. Currently, there are only six operating examples left in the world. One of them was recently spotted in North Korea.
Currently, two passenger Il-62s are used exclusively on domestic flights in North Korea. In addition, two aircraft of the same model serve to meet the needs of the North Korean government. The last two Il-62s, modified for cargo transportation, belong to the Belarusian airline Rada Airlines.
The aircraft with tail number P-885 was built in 1979 specifically for North Korea and, thus, has been in operation for 46 years.
Despite its age, the interior looks impressive, even better than some museum exhibits. To maintain this condition, modern components manufactured in North Korea are used.
For the convenience of passengers, a retractable ashtray is provided in the armrest of each seat. The signs duplicate information in Korean and English. After takeoff, built-in TVs are activated, which throughout the flight show Korean entertainment shows and educational materials about the nature of Korea.
The Il-62 is a Soviet long-range passenger aircraft. It became the first Soviet turbojet intercontinental aircraft, designed to replace the outdated Tu-114 and Il-18.
