The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant Museum has been enriched with a new exhibit: its collection now features a two-door GAZ-69 from 1964. The car was donated to the museum by Adil Shirinov, one of the owners of the Sollers Group.
This rare specimen, which was undergoing restoration, has become a bright addition to the exposition dedicated to the history of the legendary SUV.
The GAZ-69, produced in 1964, is considered one of the last representatives of the two-door version, which was subsequently replaced by a more practical four-door variant.
The restoration of the car included comprehensive body work, replacement of defective parts, and careful recreation of the original color. The engine and transmission were thoroughly overhauled and adjusted to ensure flawless operation.
The car's restoration affected not only the body and mechanics, but also the interior. The seats received new upholstery, and the dashboard and controls were restored to their original appearance. Even the smallest details, from handles and switches to emblems, were carefully selected and restored to recreate the original look of the cabin.
The GAZ-69 is a Soviet light all-wheel-drive vehicle with increased cross-country ability. Among the people, the car was nicknamed "goat" due to its stiff suspension and short wheelbase.
