Massive Steam Failures in Russia: Users Complain About Problems with Games and Store

Russian users of the Steam gaming platform have encountered massive failures in the service's operation. According to the Downdetector detector, over 3,400 complaints have been registered in the last hour, and over 5,000 in total over the past 24 hours on the "Сбой.рф" and Downdetector.su services.

The largest number of complaints comes from Moscow (19%), Sverdlovsk Oblast (9%), St. Petersburg (7%), Novosibirsk Oblast (6%), and Krasnoyarsk Krai (6%).

Users note problems with downloading already purchased games, accessing the store, inventory, and other elements of the platform. Failures have also been recorded in the Khabarovsk and Perm Krais, Sakhalin and Amur Oblasts, as well as in Kamchatka.

According to TCPShield, on the morning of October 7, failures affected several major gaming and online platforms at once, including Riot Games, Epic Games Store, EA, Call of Duty, and Marvel Rivals. Experts attribute them to a series of DDoS attacks, among which the TCP Carpet Bomb method is mentioned.

The attacks also affected international services: there were reports of disruptions in the operation of PlayStation Network, AWS, and Cloudflare. Despite the short-term nature of the failures, the residual load on the networks remains, and TCPShield continues to repel attacks. Steam and other platforms are gradually restoring operation, but Valve has not yet provided official comments.
