BelAZ mining dump trucks and other special equipment could work on the Moon in the future. This opinion was expressed by the general designer of the enterprise, Alexander Naskovets.
Probably, this is our dream. There is only a grain of truth in every joke. We understand that mineral resources on Earth will eventually be depleted and we will need to extract them somewhere else. But this is the distant future.
Naskovets recalled that BelAZ is keeping up with the times. The plant has been producing unmanned dump trucks for several years. Two such trucks are already operating at open-pit mines in Khakassia.
Two robotic dump trucks with an updated robotic system are undergoing testing at an industrial test site in the Brest region.
The management of BelAZ, even before the introduction of foreign sanctions against Belarus, set the task of increasing the level of import substitution, Naskovets noted. The program is approved annually by the Ministry of Industry of the Republic. Every year, the company's level of import dependence decreases by 10-15%, he summarized.
