The United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec) spoke about the uniqueness of domestic aviation gas turbine engines. Their development took place in the 2000–2010s.
The main cycle parameters showed significant growth, based on a further technological leap, UEC noted. The gas temperature in front of the turbine rose to 1800–1900 K, the compression ratio to 40–50, and the bypass ratio to 8–10.
When developing the PD-14 engine, the engineers made a new leap in increasing the main parameters: the bypass ratio by a factor of 2, the gas temperature in front of the turbine by 200 K, the total compression ratio in the compressor by 10–20%, which ensured a reduction in cruising specific fuel consumption by 12%.
To create a competitive 5th generation engine, UEC has introduced a number of important advanced technologies. Among them:
- technology for manufacturing a lightweight wide-chord blade from titanium alloy using diffusion welding and superplastic deformation;
- technology for manufacturing and repairing mono-wheels (blisks) of an axial compressor and welded rotors from titanium and nickel alloys;
- technology for creating long-life flame tubes for environmentally friendly combustion chambers using laser and EDM perforation and thermal barrier coating;
- technology for manufacturing high-pressure turbine blades with highly efficient cooling from new single-crystal and intermetallic alloys and a new generation of thermal barrier coating;
- technology for manufacturing sound-absorbing structures from composite materials and metals;
- technology for ensuring and confirming the competitive life of the main parts, taking into account the modern requirements of international airworthiness standards;
- full authority digital engine control (FADEC) system, which provides reliable control and monitoring of the parameters of all components and systems.
The PD-14 engine has passed a full cycle of certification tests and confirmed that its characteristics meet the requirements of the technical specifications and certification basis. On October 15, 2018, the Aviation Register of the Russian Federation issued a type certificate for the PD-14 aircraft engine.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Russia will invest 765 billion rubles in the project "Production of airplanes and helicopters".
