67.7% of all vehicles registered in Russia are cars that were manufactured more than ten years ago, Kommersant reports, citing new data from the State traffic inspectorate. For comparison: last year, the share of such cars was 42.3%.

The situation is especially alarming with completely "aged" cars: 23.7 million passenger cars, 4.9 million trucks and 330 thousand buses in the Russian Federation are already over 15 years old.

The problem of the aging car fleet has been officially recognized as one of the most acute - it is included in the presidential strategy for road safety until 2030. The document provides data for 2024, according to which 23% of passenger cars, 38% of trucks, 20% of buses and 80% of motorcycles have been in operation for more than 15 years.

The situation is aggravated by the drop in sales of new equipment: at the end of 2025, the market for new passenger cars decreased by 15.6%, heavy-duty trucks - by 54%, medium-duty trucks - by 44%.

Earlier it was reported that Russia was among the five countries with the most expensive cars: the average price of a new car in the country exceeded 45 thousand dollars. Cars are more expensive only in Canada (62 thousand), Great Britain (61 thousand), the USA (52 thousand) and Israel (50 thousand). For comparison: in Germany the average price is about 40 thousand, in Australia - 35 thousand, in South Korea - 30 thousand, and in China and Japan - 22–23 thousand dollars.
