Placing orders for the construction of ships for the Russian Navy abroad remains a practical solution in the current environment. The only option is North Korea, according to military expert Sergey Marzhetsky.
He explained that the circle of states willing to build corvettes and frigates for Russia under the risk of sanctions is minimal.
The only country that is really capable of taking on such an order and fulfilling it within the specified timeframe without constantly shifting them to the right and "scamming" at the end is our ally North Korea.
Marzhetsky emphasized that the DPRK has a developed heavy industry and operates under conditions of sanctions isolation, which reduces the risks of technology leakage. He also called the transfer of licenses for shipbuilding with subsequent unification of fleets promising.
If the North Koreans, with the technical assistance of Russian specialists, master these ships, reaching speeds of 300–400 days per frigate or destroyer, they will be able to cover their own and our needs in just a few years.
The specialist concluded that naval cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang is capable of strengthening Russia's position in the Far East.
Chairman of the Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev stated that the Russian Navy will need an increase in the ship composition to respond to modern threats. The corresponding request will be included in the updated program for the development of the Navy until 2050.
