В августе продажи электромобилей снизились на 17% в России

Economic and infrastructure barriers hinder market development

In August 2025, only 1,082 new electric vehicles were registered in Russia, which is 17% less than in the same period last year. This was announced by the analytical agency Avtostat.

After a slight increase in July, when sales increased by 2%, the market again faced negative dynamics, which is a cause for concern among experts.

The most successful brand in August was the Chinese Zeekr, which sold 275 cars. In second place is Evolute, produced in Lipetsk, with 149 cars sold. Rounding out the top three is another Chinese manufacturer, Avatr, whose sales amounted to 117 cars. The top five also included Kaliningrad's Amberauto with 90 electric vehicles and the Chinese BYD and domestic Moskvich 3e (renamed JAC), which shared fifth position with 88 electric vehicles sold.

The decline in interest in electric vehicles in Russia is due to several factors. Firstly, the high cost of cars, as premium Chinese brands dominate the market. According to Anatoly Orlenko, head of sales at Auto.ru in St. Petersburg, as of the beginning of September, the average price of a new electric car in Russia is almost 6.5 million rubles. This makes electric vehicles unaffordable for many potential buyers.

In addition, infrastructure limitations also play a significant role. The lack of charging stations and an underdeveloped electric vehicle service network create additional barriers for buyers, which in turn affects the overall demand for this type of transport.
