The sunken sea tug for the Russian Navy (VMF) "Kapitan Ushakov" of project 23470 has been in the water at the pier of the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg for a month now. Footage of the vessel lying on its side has appeared online.
The technical readiness of the tug before the sinking was 97%.
"Kapitan Ushakov" was launched in June 2022. In the autumn of 2023, the tug was moored at the Baltic Shipyard for completion.
On August 8, 2025, the vessel listed and partially sank, with preliminary damage estimated at a minimum of 1 million rubles. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case regarding violation of safety regulations during construction work. The commissioning of the vessel was postponed indefinitely.
At the end of August, the Yaroslavl Shipyard completed the tender to find a contractor to raise the sunken tug. The exact timing and cost of the work have not been announced.
