Эффективное топливо из гидролизного лигнина получили в САФУ

The resulting material is planned to be used in the metallurgical industry

The Northern Arctic Federal University (NArFU) in Arkhangelsk has presented an innovative method for producing effective fuel from hydrolysis lignin (torrefied fuel). This was announced by Pavel Maryandyshev, Head of the Laboratory of Alternative Energy Sources in the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation - First Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Science at NArFU.

Torrefied fuel is obtained as a result of thermal processing of biomass under conditions of limited oxygen access. It can be widely used in industry.

We have developed a technology for producing torrefied fuel, and in the process of developing the technology, we obtained torrefied fuel that can subsequently be used in the metallurgical industry. That is, it is a high-calorie fuel with good reaction performance.

According to Pavel Maryandyshev, lignin is one of the polymers contained in the cells of various plants, and makes up almost a third of the dry matter of trees. Hydrolysis lignin is a by-product of cellulose ethanol production.

Working with hydrolysis lignin requires special conditions, as it has a low density and a high content of ash and sulfur.

Obtaining torrefied fuel from hydrolysis lignin and sawdust seemed impossible to many until recently, but we modified our existing reactor in accordance with the required conditions and the possibility of raising the temperature to 430 degrees and obtained the first samples of torrefied fuel.

The technology for producing torrefied fuel from hydrolysis lignin has attracted the attention of the company "GreenArTech." It plans to introduce this process into industrial production for the needs of the metallurgical industry.
