The Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute named after N. E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI) expects that the new supersonic aircraft "Strizh" can be implemented by 2028. This was announced by the General Director of TsAGI, Kirill Sypalo.
We have completed the preliminary technical design stage, and we are moving on to working documentation together with our partners from the Sukhoi Design Bureau. We hope that the aircraft will be implemented in the horizon of 2027–2028.
Sypalo added that many new technologies are being introduced into the project, including aerodynamic layouts and the basics of a "dark cockpit".
In the cockpit itself, most likely, there will be no portholes, they will be replaced by synthesized vision systems. All these innovations allowed us to move on to the stage of experimental design work. This experience is invaluable and unique, we hope for its further development.
The creation of a prototype, probably, may appear no earlier than 2035. Engineers first need to complete the development of all key technologies — including the power plant and onboard equipment. It is not yet known exactly which engine will be used on this novelty.
General Director of the National Research Center "Institute named after N. E. Zhukovsky" Andrei Dutov noted that the future Russian supersonic aircraft will fly without a retractable nose, as was the case with the Tu-144.
