Import-substituted processor for AI and drones developed in Russia

The K1892VM21Ya chip helps recognize objects in real time

While the whole world is discussing new video cards and neural networks, Russia is developing its own chip for devices with artificial intelligence — K1892VM21Ya.

This is a processor, which is a system on a chip, developed by the SPC "ELVIS". In fact, it is a mini-computer inside one chip, on which you can build entire devices: from smart cameras to robots.

The main "feature" is that there are special DSP cores ELCore-50 inside, which can accelerate neural networks. Their performance reaches approximately 1 TOPS, which allows you to run computer vision algorithms directly on the device.

Simply put, equipment on such a processor can see and understand what is happening without the cloud and the Internet.

For example, the chip is capable of running popular neural network models such as:

  • YOLOv5
  • YOLOv8
  • ResNet
  • EfficientNet

This means that the chip helps to recognize people, cars and other objects directly in real time.

And here comes the most interesting part.

These capabilities make the processor especially suitable for drones. The drone needs to simultaneously process video from the camera, analyze the environment and make decisions during the flight — and all this is desirable directly on board.

It is for such tasks that such chips are designed.

In addition to drones, the processor can be used in:

  • intelligent cameras
  • robotics
  • navigation systems
  • single-board computers
  • artificial intelligence devices

Research boards and software tools are already available for developers, including support for Linux and an environment for working with neural networks.
