The Russian Air Force (VVS) will develop by equipping combat aircraft with advanced weapons, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated.
The department noted that increasing the combat capabilities of Su-30SM(SM2), Su-34, and Su-35S, strategic missile carriers to the Tu-160M and Tu-95M(SM) versions, and long-range missile-carrying bombers Tu-22M3 is the main direction of the development of the armed forces.
The Ministry of Defense stated that the fleet of super-heavy long-range military transport aircraft An-124 and heavy military transport aircraft Il-76MD is expected to undergo further modernization. Also, all Russian airfields will be provided with protective structures.
In the last two years, protective structures have been erected at the main airfields to shelter aviation equipment of army and operational-tactical aviation. Shelters are also being created for long-range and military transport aircraft. In the future, it is planned to provide the entire airfield network of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation with such shelters.
The Russian Prospective Aviation Complex for Long-Range Aviation (PAK DA) should replace the Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers, providing transportation of up to 30 tons of weapons over a distance of more than 12,000 km.
