Air Leak from Russian Segment of ISS Still Ongoing

Repair work slowed the leak in the "Zvezda" module, but it has not yet been completely eliminated

The rate of air leakage in the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) has significantly decreased after repairs, but the problem remains. This was stated by Sergei Krikalev, Deputy General Director of "Roscosmos" for manned programs.

The search and repair of the leak significantly reduced its rate. For some time, we even thought that we had found the last crack and repaired it. But, obviously, in the long term, we see that the leak is still ongoing, but has significantly decreased.
Sergei Krikalev, Deputy General Director of the State Corporation for Manned Programs

On June 13, "Roscosmos" reported that the leak in the "Zvezda" module, discovered in 2019, had been eliminated. However, monitoring showed that the pressure in the compartment continues to drop. The ISS crew has been struggling with this problem since 2020. At that time, the astronauts found a crack 4 cm long and temporarily sealed it. In March 2021, repeated repairs were carried out, but the leak did not disappear completely.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Russia and the United States will continue to work together on the ISS until 2030.
