The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) sees no point in continuing the repair of the only Russian aircraft-carrying cruiser "Admiral Kuznetsov" of Project 1143.5, said Chairman of the Board of Directors Andrey Kostin.
We believe that there is no point in repairing it anymore. It is already over 40 years old, and it is an extremely expensive thing... I think the issue will be resolved in the sense that it will either be sold or disposed of.
It is reported in specialized Telegram channels that 100 billion rubles have already been spent on the modernization of the warship. An additional 30 billion may save the situation.
"Admiral Kuznetsov" has been undergoing modernization since 2017. During the repair work, several incidents occurred. In 2018, the country's largest floating dock sank, damaging the aircraft carrier's hull. And in 2019, a major fire broke out on the ship.
