Yellow lane markings have been applied on Moscow streets for the first time. According to the new edition of GOST, the use of yellow lines to separate traffic flows is permitted from 2025. This was reported by the Department of Transport.
The introduction of the new standard is part of a comprehensive strategy to reduce accidents. The yellow line increases the visibility of markings in the dark and in winter, especially in conditions of limited visibility. The bright contrast with the road surface helps drivers to better navigate and reduces the risk of driving into oncoming lanes, which is especially important in areas with heavy traffic.
The first section where such markings were applied was Chaginskaya Street in the South-Eastern Administrative District of Moscow. Previously, accidents often occurred here due to improper overtaking. Now, specialists from the Center for Traffic Management will monitor the situation and analyze the effectiveness of the innovation.
If the experiment confirms a positive impact on safety, yellow markings will begin to be used on other Moscow streets as well.
