Roskachestvo is launching a large-scale study to identify hidden methods that video game developers use to retain players and encourage them to spend more money. Experts have developed a unique approach that will determine how honest the game is with the player and whether it uses deceptive techniques. The study will cover more than ten genres, from light puzzles to complex strategy games.
Roskachestvo experts have identified 16 key manipulation techniques, dividing them into three categories. Here are a few examples:
"Out of energy" — the game does not allow you to go further until you wait or pay for a new charge of energy.
"Only today and now!" — Developers use temporary promotions and unique offers to create a sense of fear of missing out in players.
Loot boxes and gacha machines — buying a "pig in a poke" in the hope of getting a rare item or character.
Testing will begin in August with an analysis of games in a popular genre.
We at Roskachestvo are confident that an informed player is a protected player. Knowledge of manipulative mechanics will help users make informed choices and not fall victim to unfair gaming practices.
Earlier, MTS opened a video game development center. The first project will be the children's game "Kiba". It will be launched in Telegram Mini Apps. The choice of platform is no coincidence. According to Mediascope, children aged 7–11 spend 18% of their mobile application time in Telegram.
