New scam in Telegram: fraudsters try to "buy" users' nicknames for a lot of money

Fraudsters target Telegram Premium subscribers

A new fraudulent scheme related to the purchase of users' nicknames has appeared in Telegram. One of the application users with a Telegram Premium subscription named Sergey told how he almost became a victim of fraud.

He was contacted by attackers. They offered to sell his nickname for 3300 TON, which is about 754 thousand rubles ($9570). Criminals use fake applications that look like the official Fragment.com service — an auction for buying nicknames and virtual numbers. They offer to conclude a smart contract, but not on the official website, but in a fake application. The "smart contract" turns out to be a trap.

Thus, the link opens an almost identical fraudulent copy of the application. In Sergey's case, the application code and domain were sub33.testoffer.bet. They have nothing to do with Telegram. More than $3.7 million was found on the fraudster's wallet to convince the victim of his solvency. When signing a fake smart contract, the victim gives fraudsters access to their crypto wallet.

Sergey emphasizes that modern fraudsters are not just amateurs, but real professionals. In his opinion, the only protection against them is knowledge, caution and healthy skepticism.
