Scientists from the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) have developed a theoretical way to move in space without using fuel. This was announced by one of the authors of the development, Doctor of Technical Sciences and Professor Sergey Kupreev.
According to the scientists' hypothesis, it is possible to create a spacecraft that will use the force of gravity and the internal properties of particles to move, avoiding the emission of reaction mass. This opens up prospects for flights beyond the solar system.
The new principle of movement in space is based on changing the kinetic moment. This approach uses the emission and absorption of low-energy particle fluxes with spin in the direction perpendicular to the trajectory of the body. In particular, during research, in strict accordance with the laws of classical and quantum mechanics, the possibility of creating an acceleration of the order of tens of thousands of m/s2 was theoretically proven.
If all the atoms of the device simultaneously emit particles with a certain spin in the right direction, this will allow achieving smooth movement without overloads. As a result, engines can be developed that operate on quantum principles, and not on chemical reactions, as is the case in modern systems.
To test their hypothesis, the scientists conducted an experiment. A heavy cast-iron ball was dropped next to ostrich feathers, and it was recorded on video how the feathers slightly deflected towards it. This should confirm the presence of gravitational effects.
Although the theory has not yet been practically confirmed, it may inspire scientists to make new discoveries in the field of space technology.
