Unique System for Identifying Artificial Space Objects from Earth Developed in Russia

A special algorithm will accurately determine the type of object in real time

Russian researchers have created an innovative system for recognizing the types of artificial satellites in Earth's orbit directly from our planet. This was announced at the SPIEF by Anatoly Kalyaev, a member of the Coordination Council for Youth Affairs in the Scientific and Educational Spheres of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation for Science and Education, Doctor of Technical Sciences, and Head of the Laboratory of Neural Network Systems at the Research Institute of Multiprocessor Computing Systems of the Southern Federal University.

Our university is developing a unique system for identifying artificial Earth satellites in low orbit (up to 2,000 km from the surface).

The system consists of an optical telescope with an automatic object guidance and tracking system, as well as algorithms for processing large amounts of data and specialized equipment. The system instantly determines the type of object.

This is very important for understanding exactly what is moving in our orbits, as no one has complete information today.

Russia is building a new 120-ton solar coronagraph telescope. KCT-3 will include a 30-meter tower for the telescope, a building for technological equipment, laboratory and administrative premises. The telescope will be installed on a rotating platform at the top of the tower. The diameter of its mirror will be 3 meters, and the total height of the structure will reach 42 meters.
