AvtoVAZ is considering creating an extended version of the old Lada Granta. The approach to implementing this project differs from the one used for Lada Aura.
There, stretching was done by lengthening the base. But for Granta, this is expensive: you need to change the roof, floor, side, and rear door panels... They decided to go a simpler way – to lengthen the trunk. From the rear axle to the bumper cut will now be 1050 mm, that is, the car will be lengthened by a little more than 20 cm. And the entire rear body block is taken from Datsun.
The trunk in the new version of Lada Granta will reach about 700 liters. The manufacturer has two projects left to modernize old models — restyling the 2123 model with the installation of a front-wheel drive engine with a volume of 1.8 liters and an extended version of the Granta. There is a risk that there may not be enough funding to implement the plan.
The enthusiasm was in 2023, when the market was growing and it was possible to invest. Now VAZ is more interested in Iskra and the crossover. Even pulling niche e-Largus and Aura, VAZ will not be able to do it for long, they are unprofitable.
