According to Jetline Marvel, Armenia is in talks with India to acquire Su-30MKI (modernized commercial Indian) multirole fighters. These aircraft are a modernized version of the Russian Su-30, produced under license by the Indian company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
According to analysts, Yerevan's decision was made in response to the increase in the number of combat aircraft in Azerbaijan's arsenal. Earlier, reports appeared in the media that Baku plans to purchase 40 JF-17 Thunder Block III aircraft from Pakistan.
The Su-30MKI is equipped with advanced technologies, including AL-31FP engines with thrust vectoring. In the cockpit, traditional analog instruments have been replaced by three multifunctional liquid crystal displays.
The N011M "Bars" radar system provides detection of airborne targets at a distance of up to 140 kilometers with the ability to simultaneously track fifteen objects. Additional capabilities are provided by the OLS-30 optoelectronic station, which is designed to search for and track airborne targets in the IR range, determine coordinates, and measure the range to both airborne and ground targets. Additional maneuverability at low speeds is provided by the forward horizontal tail.
For air combat, R-77 medium-range and R-73 close-range missiles are provided. Strike functions are provided by supersonic BrahMos cruise missiles, created jointly by Russian and Indian specialists, as well as high-precision Kh-29 and Kh-31 missiles for various purposes.
