The company "RPK Unmanned Systems" presented a new vertical take-off and landing drone "Varan-3" at the CIPR-2025 exhibition. The drone stands out among ordinary FPV drones of the "wing" type due to its built-in through cargo compartment.
"Varan-3" is the most compact drone in the Aerocrafter VTOL program. It has a high degree of autonomy. The manufacturer claims that the drone is capable of performing fully automatic flights along specified routes.
The drone has a wingspan of 1.5 meters and a length of 1.21 meters, and a maximum take-off weight of 15.4 kilograms. The drone features a cargo compartment measuring 340x115x120 mm. It can accommodate up to 3.7 kilograms of payload, which can be dropped in flight or unloaded after landing.
The maximum speed of the "Varan-3" reaches 135 km/h, and the flight autonomy is up to 45 minutes with a typical load and up to 90 minutes without cargo when using additional power.
The model has a range of 30 kilometers, and a maximum flight altitude of 1500 meters. The drone tests were conducted in April this year.
The configuration of the autopilot and software (based on INAV or Ardupilot) depends on the specific modification and tasks to be solved. The first production model of the drone was released on April 18 this year.
The drone has a chance to stand in the same row with drones such as Dji Mavic-3 PRO and Matrice.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the company "RPK Unmanned Systems" developed a universal vertical take-off and landing unmanned aerial vehicle (VTOL UAV) "Varan-3" for the Russian military.
