Russian supersonic passenger aircraft will be able to accelerate to 2500 km/h

Maximum flight range — up to 8500 km

In late April, Russia announced a new state-funded project research project called "Development of a complex of technologies for the airframe, power plant, aircraft systems and airborne radio-electronic equipment to ensure the formation of a technical appearance of a promising supersonic civil aircraft" (Code "SGS-T3").

The contractor will be determined on a competitive basis on May 16, 2025. Some details of the ongoing and upcoming work on the creation of a passenger "aircraft of the future" have become known.

According to publicly available data, the work consists of five stages. It must be completed from December 2025 to the beginning of December 2027. The development is funded from the state budget.

The developers plan that the new machine should fly at a cruising speed of 2-2.1 M (about 2500 km/h) and have a range of up to 8500 km or more.

To achieve such parameters after much more "simple" subsonic aircraft, which now make up 100% of the world's civil aviation fleet, a truly technological breakthrough is needed.
