The cost of laptops, smartphones, and headphones in Russia has decreased by 10–20% in the first months of 2025, reaching the lowest values in recent years. The main factors were the strengthening of the ruble, excess inventory, and a decrease in consumer demand amid high key interest rates.
The dollar exchange rate, which fell from 105 to 85 rubles between December 2024 and April 2025, allowed small importers to purchase equipment cheaper. Large retailers, forced to sell goods purchased at old exchange rates, launched marketing campaigns with discounts of up to 20%. The decrease is especially noticeable for laptops: models imported at the end of 2024 are being sold at a loss to free up space for new batches.
According to Mobile Research Group, electronics sales in Q1 fell by 30% due to reduced credit availability. The share of loans in the segment, which previously reached 30%, is now close to zero. Consumers prefer to save funds in deposits with yields of up to 16% per annum, postponing gadget purchases. M.Video-Eldorado confirms that the average check has decreased not only due to the exchange rate, but also due to the updating of the assortment with an emphasis on budget lines.
Analysts predict price stabilization by the summer, with a possible correction of 5–10% if the current ruble exchange rate is maintained. The return of foreign brands to the Russian market, if the geopolitical situation improves, could simplify logistics and reduce dependence on intermediaries. However, a cost increase of 5–7% is likely by autumn due to seasonal demand and a possible weakening of the national currency.
