Since the beginning of manned spaceflights, 631 people from 43 countries have traveled to space, including 82 women from 13 countries.
These figures include non-professional cosmonauts and astronauts, as well as space tourists.
The United States leads in the number of spaceflights with 369 people in space. The USSR and Russia are in second place with 138. China rounds out the top three with 24 representatives. They are followed by 14 Japanese, 13 Germans, 11 Canadians, and 10 French.
The record for the total time spent in space belongs to Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko — 1,111 days, 14 hours, 58 minutes, and 37 seconds.
The first spacewalk was performed on March 18, 1965, by Alexei Leonov.
The first female cosmonaut was Valentina Tereshkova, and the first woman to perform a spacewalk was Svetlana Savitskaya.
The American Sunita Williams holds the record for the time spent in open space — 62 hours and 6 minutes over 9 spacewalks.
