From 2015 to 2025, only five wide-body long-range Il-96-300 aircraft were built in Russia. This was reported by the Technosphere Russia publication.
The aircraft are built at the Voronezh Aviation Plant (VASO, part of PJSC "Il" of Rostec), but no aircraft has left the plant in the last two years.
To understand the real capabilities of the enterprise, let's look at the register of "ninety-sixes" produced by year over the past 10 years. So: 2015 - 1 aircraft, 2016 - 1, 2017 - 0, 2018 - 0, 2019 - 0, 2020 - 0, 2021 - 2 aircraft, 2022 - 0, 2023 - 1, 2024 - 0, 2025 - 0. A total of 5 new Il-96s were produced in 2015-2025.
The publication questioned the reality of plans to build 23 new Il-96-300s by 2035. On average, VASO will have to build at least two new aircraft per year.
It is not yet clear who will build them in such volumes. Only in the plans they promised that Voronezh would be able to make two Il-96s a year, but so far in fact - half an aircraft a year.
It also became known that the Il-96-400M program has stalled in Russia. There has been no news of test flights for several months.
