Scammers in Russia have begun actively using phishing sites to steal money by offering fake car insurance policies, the Interior Ministry said.
Attackers create exact copies of the websites of well-known insurance companies. These fake resources look almost identical to the originals and use domain names that include the word osago or something similar to the name of a real insurance organization.
The user is prompted to fill out a form to calculate the cost of insurance, in which they are asked to enter personal data, information about their driver's license, car, as well as their bank card number and CVV code. After that, the person is redirected to a fake payment page where they enter a confirmation code from an SMS. This allows scammers to bypass two-factor protection and gain access to funds in the account.
The Interior Ministry emphasizes that many citizens have already suffered in this way. Users are urged to be extremely careful and check the authenticity of insurance company websites before entering any data.
