Leningrad NPP Tests TUK-137T Container for Transporting Spent Nuclear Fuel

Tests were conducted at the sixth power unit of the station

The operation of the new TUK-137T transport and packaging container for transporting spent nuclear fuel was tested at the sixth power unit of the Leningrad NPP. This was reported by the Rosatom press service.

The new generation container is not only a unified solution for all NPPs of the Russian VVER-1200 project, ensuring the safe transportation of SNF, but also an important step towards the transition of the domestic nuclear industry to a balanced nuclear fuel cycle, which is based on the concept of multiple use of nuclear fuel in order to reduce the extraction of natural uranium and reduce the amount of waste sent for final disposal.

The container is equipped with 18 cells, each of which was fitted with a simulator of a heat-generating assembly, identical to the real one in weight and dimensions.

Earlier www1.ru reported that at the Leningrad NPP the installation of a modernized generator stator is underway.
