Sovcomflot to Receive Three New Vessels in 2025: Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex Prepares to Deliver Ice-Class Tankers and Gas Carriers

The company expects delivery of 15 Arc7 ice-class vessels for the Northern Sea Route

PAO Sovcomflot (SCF) expects to receive three vessels in 2025, built at the Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex (SSK) in the Primorsky Territory.

Currently, Sovcomflot has 18 vessels in its order portfolio at Zvezda, 15 of which are Arctic-class gas carriers. They are to ensure year-round transit navigation along the Northern Sea Route. Contracts for the construction of these Arc7 ice-class vessels, intended for the Arctic LNG 2 project, were concluded in 2019–2020.

Construction has been significantly delayed due to sanctions restrictions and supply disruptions. However, work continues. The lead vessel in the series – the gas carrier "Aleksey Kosygin" – is already undergoing sea trials. Sovcomflot plans to put it into operation in the near future.

The new Arctic gas carriers will have a length of 300 m, a width of 48.8 m, and a cargo capacity of 172.6 thousand cubic meters. They are equipped with a propulsion system with three azimuth thrusters with a total capacity of 45 MW, which will ensure high icebreaking capability and maneuverability.

In addition to gas carriers, Zvezda is building three product tankers with a capacity of 50 thousand tons each for Sovcomflot.

Sovcomflot is the largest shipping company in Russia, specializing in the transportation of oil, petroleum products, and liquefied gas, as well as in servicing offshore hydrocarbon production. In 2023, the company transported about 75 million tons of hydrocarbons.
