Универсальный двигатель для беспилотников создали в МАИ

The unit can be installed on aerial, land, and water drones

A new electric motor for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has been developed at the Advanced Engineering School of the Moscow Aviation Institute.

In mass production, the new engine is capable of competing with Chinese counterparts in its class. The design allows the unit to be installed on aerial, land, and water drones.

Electric motors are mainly produced in China. However, at a comparable cost, the MAI development has better quality materials and higher mass-energy indicators. In particular, at a rotation speed of 6800 rpm, the engine can provide a continuous power of up to 12–13 kW and a short-term power of up to 16 kW.

The developers improved the engine parameters using a proprietary computational modeling technique. It allowed them to determine the most rational ways to close the magnetic flux. In some cases, the efficiency gain reached 10%.

Earlier www1.ru reported that a small-sized gas turbine engine for aircraft-type UAVs was assembled in the Perm region.
