A group of experts from Russia, the USA, and China has proposed a UN project for cleaning up space debris and exchanging information in this area. The development of orbital "sweepers" is underway in several countries, and private companies also have their own projects. The danger is that no one controls them, and cleaning devices can be turned into anti-satellite combat stations, according to military expert Dmitry Kornev.
According to him, to address anti-satellite defense issues, it is necessary to detect and identify an object in orbit, and then hit it or disrupt its operation.
Any manipulations and actions to search for and inspect objects in orbit can form the basis for creating an anti-satellite weapon system. And it is quite likely that such work is already being carried out by countries from the space club.
The analyst added that there is a possibility that a real anti-satellite weapon will be developed and tested under the guise of a peaceful anti-debris project.
And here it is important to raise the issue of establishing a mechanism for international control over such developments in a timely manner. In the interests of the overall development of civilization on Earth.
Earlier www1.ru reported that in Russia, a test model of the first reusable device for collecting, transporting, and disposing of debris in orbit has been developed. At the same time, the transporter is also capable of moving any objects in space, for example, moving satellites between orbits, extending their service life.
