Domestic game engine Nau Engine reaches a new level: ITMO will take over technical support

The project, supported by VK, will be developed with the participation of ITMO University and the APRIORI Association

Technical support for the Russian game engine Nau Engine, in the development of which VK invested 1 billion rubles, has been transferred to St. Petersburg ITMO University. In cooperation with the Association of Professionals in the Industry of Operation and Development of Games (APRIORI), the university will be engaged in the support and development of the open source engine.

The project is in beta testing. It started in November last year. It is not yet known when the beta test will end.

The process of processing feedback from product users will take place during the year.

Market participants say that the domestic project is not in demand in the gaming industry. Many studios prefer to use more well-known foreign engines, such as Unreal Engine and Unity.

Everyone continues to work with Unreal Engine, Unity. For example, "Смута" was created on the first one.
Insiders in the gaming industry

The future development of the domestic product will depend on the community of developers in the gaming industry. Integration with ITMO University will create opportunities for the development of the engine and the training of students not only in the field of game development, but also in the creation of tools for their development, experts say.

The engine can also be used in research projects. A representative of Nau Engine said that part of the team is already working at ITMO, and the other part is involved in other projects, without specifying details.
