Smolensk NPP has begun preparing power unit No. 3 for scheduled maintenance, which will start on January 11. This was reported by the communications department of the nuclear power plant.
As part of the preparation for the current repair, turbine generator No. 5 was shut down, which led to a decrease in the power unit's capacity by 50%. The operation was carried out in accordance with the requirements of technological regulations and operating instructions. According to the annual repair campaign schedule, the power unit will be completely stopped on January 11.
It is planned to carry out the standard scope of current repairs on the power unit, including work on in-reactor control. According to the communications department of the NPP, the repair will last 54 days.
Currently, three power units with a total capacity of 2.579 GW are operating at the Smolensk NPP. There are no comments on the operation of the equipment. In the first nine days of January, the station generated 606 million kWh of electricity, which is 26 million kWh more than the planned indicators.
The radiation background on the territory of the industrial site and adjacent areas remains unchanged and corresponds to natural background values. Smolensk NPP, being a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern JSC, annually generates about 20 billion kWh of electricity, which is more than 75% of the total volume produced in the Smolensk region. The facility operates three power units with RBMK-1000 reactors.
