Telegram announced the introduction of a third-party verification mechanism for public figures and organizations.
The purpose of the innovation is to help users distinguish genuine sources of information, minimizing the risks of fraud and the spread of false data. The company's official blog notes that a decentralized approach to verification sets a new standard for public platforms.
Third-party verification differs from Telegram's internal verification system. It is carried out by verified services accredited by the messenger. Upon successful verification, a verified account badge appears next to the user's name or channel name, and an explanatory comment is added to the profile.
According to State Duma deputy Anton Gorelkin, Roskomnadzor plans to launch an official bot to simplify the verification process for channels with an audience of more than 10,000 subscribers. Such channels will be able to receive an "A+" badge, which will be displayed before their name. It will replace the link to the KND portal, which registered channels currently place in the description.
The labeling of bloggers became mandatory on January 1, 2025, when a law came into force requiring administrators of large channels to register with the RKN and provide personal data. Social networks, including Telegram, must label registered channels with an "A+" badge to confirm compliance with the requirements.
The introduction of this approach, according to Telegram developers and government officials, will improve control over sources of information, especially in the context of the significant growth in popularity of the messenger as a platform for disseminating news and blogs.
