Caution, fraudsters: VTB explains how not to fall victim to New Year's scams

Four common schemes to watch out for

On the eve of the New Year holidays, VTB Bank warned of an increase in the activity of Internet fraudsters who use the holiday bustle to steal user data. We tell you more about how not to become a victim of villains.

Here are four main fraud schemes:

  • False notifications about payments. Users are offered to install an "official application" under the guise of New Year bonuses, which gives fraudsters access to their data.
  • Fake sales. Fraudsters create fake websites with tempting offers, when opened, users download a virus.
  • Congratulatory links. Attackers send out "New Year cards" or videos in messengers, opening which activates spyware SOFTWARE.
  • New Year's applications: malicious programs can be hidden in applications such as "holiday wallpapers" or "checklists."

To protect yourself, VTB recommends installing applications only from official stores, avoiding suspicious links, and using antivirus software.
