Taxi fares continue to rise in 2024. The main reasons are a shortage of drivers, rising fuel and car prices. By the end of the year, the shortage of drivers may reach 130,000 people, which leads to higher prices, especially during peak hours and bad weather, RBC writes.
According to Rosstat, taxi fare increases in 2024 reached a record high of 32.53 rubles per kilometer, which is the highest level in the last ten years. As a result, more than 50% of Russians have started using taxis less often.
Valery Korneev, Chairman of the Union of Users of Digital Platforms "Digital World", said in an interview with Vedomosti that 40% of the cost of a taxi ride is not economically justified, and passengers overpay due to, in his opinion, ill-conceived government regulation. Korneev explained that Yandex disclosed the pricing algorithm, which shows that about 40% of the price does not go to cover the real material costs of a taxi, but is the result of a shortage of taxis on the market.
Korneev also noted that the shortage of drivers is partly due to the complication of working conditions for self-employed drivers and the introduction of new regulations, which creates additional difficulties for industry participants.
To help passengers navigate fares, Yandex is introducing a cost breakdown feature in the Yandex Go app. Now, before ordering, you will be able to see what the price consists of: the cost of the car, the base fare, surcharges for increased demand, and additional options such as pet transportation or a child seat. This will help you choose a more favorable fare or wait for prices to drop.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Yandex Go has improved its application by adding price details.
