KMZ Develops Technology for Casting Cast Iron Bollards for Securing Mooring Ropes

New Method Will Improve Part Quality

The SKB-3 (part of the "Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant", KMZ) has developed a new method for casting the cast iron bollard 1A-180. This was reported by the company's press service.

The new technology will help to obtain better quality castings.

Cast iron castings of this geometry are prone to slag inclusions, and this inevitably leads to irreparable defects in the product. To solve this problem, we used a "overflow slag trap" design, which ensures slag trapping due to the height difference when pouring metal into the mold.
Karina Klocheva, process engineer of KMZ foundry production

A bollard is a pedestal (welded or cast) for securing mooring ropes. It is installed on piers, shipbuilding plants and shipyards.

Earlier www1.ru reported that KMZ will manufacture cylinder liners for the DN23/30 engine.
