Bug Detected in Telegram Desktop App

Flaw allows fraudsters to steal user accounts

A flaw has been detected in the Telegram messenger. It allows user accounts to be stolen. This was reported by Alexey Novikov, Managing Director of Positive Technologies.

Telegram has a bug: when the desktop application is running, an attacker can copy a folder to their computer and run it. And, if the attacked user does not have a cloud password set, a second session opens without SMS interception, without anything. This is what current hackers are using - stealing Telegram Desktop.

It was also noted that account theft in Telegram is a frequent occurrence. Cybercriminals often remain in open sessions and conduct correspondence on behalf of the user.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that MTS will warn about fraud directly during the conversation.
