В Москве разработают программное обеспечение для для отечественного тандемного масс-спектрометра

The development will allow the production of new drugs

The I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University has begun developing software for a tandem mass spectrometer, which will be developed at the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (MEPhI). This was reported by the university's press service.

Tandem mass spectrometry is one of the most accurate methods for identifying chemical substances. It is used to analyze several hundred compounds in biomaterial by "weighing" individual ionized molecules in an electric field.

The tandem mass spectrometry method is used in space research, metallurgy, nuclear energy, the oil and gas industry, and medicine. Without this technology, the development of the pharmaceutical industry and the development of new drugs is impossible.

The idea of combining a liquid chromatograph with a mass spectrometer, which was later implemented by Western developers of the device, belongs to Soviet scientists. Therefore, for engineers and programmers, the creation of our domestic tandem mass spectrometer does not pose an insurmountable problem. We can do it all ourselves.

A prototype of the device is already ready. Currently, specialists at Sechenov University are working on creating software for a tandem mass spectrometer. This includes calibrating the device, registering spectra, storing and processing results. Testing of the new software is scheduled to begin in September of this year.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that a chamber for an accelerator mass spectrometer was created in Novosibirsk.
